Ice is a Flash-based image generator producing algorithmic ice scapes. Ice utilizes a limited aesthetic and an unlimited range of combinations to explore new possibilities in a classic genre. Ice deals with the landscape image as a fluid succession of compositional suggestions freezing over at certain stages. Ice is made in Macromedia Flash/Actionscript.
Thomas Petersen (b. 1974 in Denmark) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Thomas is exploring the possibilities of letting generative Flash animations produce abstract image sequences. Examples of this work can be viewed at the website: www.crossover.dk. The interest in generative animations stems from an urge to leave a part of the creative process to forces beyond conscious control. Thomas has an MA in Aesthetics and Culture from the University of Aarhus in Denmark with the thesis: “Art and Technology – Unresolved Relations. Artistic Constructions and Critiques of the Relations Between Art and Technology”. He has held lectures and presentations on various themes within the field of art and technology e.g. at the University of Copenhagen, the IT University in Gothenburg and the RADAR festival in Copenhagen. He is one of the editors of the website www.kopenhagen.dk/net.art, which is a Danish website dealing with net art, software art and other computer based a rt forms. This work also includes interviewing personalities in the field. He has been on both the organizing and producing side of several art exhibitions in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen in Denmark.
