FILE Curitiba 2014

FILE – Electronic Language International Festival presents the art and technology exhibition “FILE Curitiba 2014” with interactive installations, games and animation films at Centro Cultural Sistema Fiep, in Curitiba, from November 9th to December 7th.
For the past 15 years, FILE promotes exhibitions, workshops and gatherings that seek to investigate the appropriations of the technologic media – as computer and games – in artistic accomplishments. With annual exhibitions in São Paulo, editions in Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, in addition to participations in international events, FILE is the biggest digital art event in Latin America.
In this exhibition, the public from Curitiba has the opportunity to know part of the recent production of electronic and digital art that has been made internationally, through a cutout of the full editions of FILE, that happen annually in São Paulo and bring together about 400 works from 40 different countries.

INSTALLATIONS

Karina Smigla-Bobinski – Simulacra – Poland/Germany

“Simulacra” is an optophysical experimental arrangement. If you hold a magnifying glass (polarizing film) before the monitor, images of hands, feet, and long black hair appear through a seemingly transparent film. But if you turn the lens in front of your eyes, the polarizing structure of the film creates color shifts or even complementary negative images.

Petros Vrellis – Starry Night – Greece

“Starry Night” is an interactive installation based on Van Gogh’s masterpiece “Starry Night”. The iconic flows of original painting come to life, as an animation. The visitor can interact with the painting, altering the flows by touching. Any influence is temporary and the animation gradually returns to its original state. The background music also responds to the flow.

Rejane Cantoni & Leonardo Crescenti – SPEAK – Brazil

An autonomous and interactive speaking machine that establishes automatic communication and synchonization between humans and machines, and between machines and machines. The whole equipment captures voices and other sounds, which are analysed and established with equivalences. These are spoken and exhibited on the screens, making a “dialogue” possible.

Ricardo Barreto & Maria Hsu – Martela – Brazil

“Martela” is a tactile robot comprised of 27 engines. Points, vectors, and textures correspond to movements of the touches on the body which can be single or multiple and in different directions, what may create agreeable or conflicting situations. The composition involves sensory relations that are interpreted by the user’s sensibility.

Takeshi Mukai, Kei Shiratori & Younghyo Bak – ARART – Japan

“ARART” is an application that breathes life into objects. It links reality with the expressions delivered through mobile devices adding new stories and values to the real environment.
