Even when asleep, a state of readiness must be maintained. Human labor is cheap and limitless. Computational resources are not. The on-demand economy has arrived at a logical allocation of resources. The “Mollusc” Streethome makes its first appearance here. It’s a sustainable, man-portable housing solution, ideal for gig workers as they save for a deposit. Lightweight, but fully armored, the Mollusc provides shelter, security and self-respect.
Bio:
John Butler was born in Dublin in 1959. Studied Drawing & Painting and Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Lives and works in Glasgow as 3dD animator. Has exhibited and screened media art work extensively in the UK and abroad, and has produced work for broadcast in UK for BBC2 and Channel 4 and E4. Interactive work has been commissioned by Tramway, Glasgow, Lovebytes, Sheffield, and ISEA/FACT, Manchester. His work has also been screened at European media art festivals Impakt, Kassel Dokfest, Emaf, and Transmediale.
