The Museu do Futebol (Football Museum) in Sao Paulo is a unique translation of
this experience. The visitor is invited to feel, to cheer and to be touched by the history
of football in Brazil: brought by the British, the sport was reinvented by our players, who
made their bodies inventive machines of dribble, passes and an infinity of incredible
moves.
They say football became the most popular sport in the world because of its
simplicity: any wooden stump can become goal posts; any piece of rag can become
a ball that rolls all-terrain. All you need is the creativity of the players. Playing is an
experience felt in our own bodies and connected to the collective spirit of the sport.
The result is an exciting journey of 7,000 square meters of exposition, through
which the visitor goes from light to darkness, from silence to noise, from heat to cold,
from sadness to happiness. At the end, the visitor unloads its emotions on interactive
games displayed at the Jogo de Corpo room, from where came the pieces reproduced
in this edition of FILE.
About the Museu do Futebol
Inaugurated in 2008 and located under the seats of the Pacaembu Stadium,
the Museum is an equipment of the Secretaria de Cultura do Governo do Estado
de São Paulo, managed by the social organization IDBrasil. In six years, it recorded
almost 2 million visitors. The Museum welcomes school field trips, tourist groups and
people with disabilities, being completely prepared to receive blind and deaf people,
wheelchair users and people with intellectual disabilities. In 2013, it inaugurated the
Centro de Referência do Futebol Brasileiro (Center for Reference of the Brazilian
Football) and made available their collections and research on the Internet as a way to
democratize the access to culture and to value the history of the Brazilian football. The
implementation project of the Museum was made by the Roberto Marinho Foundation
in partnership with the city of São Paulo and was sponsored by Rede Globo, Ambev,
Santander, Vivo and Cielo. The curator of the exhibition is Leonel Kaz, scenography by
Daniela Thomas and Felipe Tassara, art direction by Jair de Souza and architecture by
Mauro Munhoz.
