‘Caustics II’ is an experimental animation that distorts our perception of reality. I am interested in exploring 3D environments screened onto 2D surfaces. These environments represent reality but are physically impossible outside of the computer. They may be represented through infinite reflections or by composing many elements from various sources onto a single image.
‘Caustics II’ is focused on creating composition through shape and color.
Christian Merrill is an abstract animator who has shown his work in North America, Europe and South America. His work is concerned with the interplay between 2D and 3D dimensionality. He graduated from Ohio State University in 2014, and is currently working on his MFA at Bowling Green State University, where he is an instructor in computer animation.
