Abstract:
“hidden in plain sight” is a meditation on the nature of computer programming. While a computer game is running, both the game and the compiler that turns readable program code into executable machine code are themselves being compiled. This endless, recursive bootstrap cycle creates a myriad of short-lived 3D environments, which have the insignia of the process written on their walls. The work is primarily a piece of software (modified Quake III Engine, compiler) that runs on it’s own, endlessly compiling and executing virtual worlds. This machinima is a recorded video of one of these interactions.
