Created by musician Molly Joyce and visual artist Maya Smira, “The End” illuminates loss of physicality through video, music, and lyrical language. The music is inspired by German singer-songwriter Nico’s cover of the classic song from The Doors, and expands to a multi-layered voice and vintage toy organ recording, reckoning with loss of physical sensation and movement and interesting with multiple camera angles focusing on two physically-different hands.

Molly Joyce’s music has been described as of “serene power” by the New York Times. Her work has presented at TEDxMidAtlantic, Bang on a Can Marathon, and in Pitchfork. She often performs with her toy organ, an instrument that engages with her disabled left hand, and studied at Juilliard, Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and Yale.
