Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi, meaning “golden repair”, was the idea that inspired me to edit this short movie. In fact, Kintsugi is the centuries-old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with a special lacquer dusted with gold powder, silver or platinum. With this technique beautiful gold seams are created in the cracks of the ceramic, giving a unique look to the piece. Following this idea, I tried to recreate the images as if they were old pieces which had to be interlaced with “gold stitching”. I also wanted to create scenes that recall the gold and ink works fond on vertical panels of old Japanese room dividing screens.
