Death Day

While working at this project, we called it Russian Death. However, it is not about Russian death, it could equally refer to Balkan, or Ukrainian death… This project is not about death as a physical entity at all – though it is very physical in its own way; filming it was like washing our mouths with broken glass. To feel everything as it was in reality, to feel it by ourselves, without inventing anything. We had no script; all we had was an idea. It seems to me that we had been approaching that idea for a long time. All of us. Together. Those who were filming. Those who were composing the music for the project. This is why it is important: this project is created in common, and it includes a part of each of us, everyone who has taken part in it. It is about spiritual death. About the world we are losing, the world which is about to depart. About the things that continue to be important for us in this world. And it is about the culture we carry throughout our lives until we die…

hic est enim calix sanguinis mei

A day. A night. A moment. An eclipse. Death day.
