BELLA – Light Load – Brazil

In Light Load, the antenna loaded to the top of the mountain picks up the inaudible waves flowing from the large electrical distribution antenna. We also hear the swirling motion of wind energy, along with the chime of the cows. The cows are outside the field of view, but they also complement the soundscape. The listening in this work inverts the logic of time: we are caught up in stillness and contemplation rather, than acting as producers of another energy layer.

BELLA is a visual artist and sound experimentalist. She investigates the magical and physical aspects of light and sound. Her research crosses the relationships between nature and technology, through the design of antennas, and through listening itself as a means of connection. Her works take the form of art installations, radio pieces, album releases, workshops, performances, and new media.
